The 5:2 Diet – How Does It Work?

Woman on Fast DietThe premise of the 5:2 Diet Plan is simple.  For five days, one eats pretty much as one normally would. After that five day period has ended, for two days calorie intake is limited to roughly one-quarter of normal.

This adds up to about 500 calories for women and 600 calories for men.  Sticking to this plan for the long term will result in weight loss of about 0.5 kilograms per week for women, while men should see a weight loss of slightly more on a weekly basis.

This diet plan does more than help people to lose weight, as a number of scientific studies have shown that intermittent fasting also helps to improve blood pressure levels, improve levels of cholesterol, and show improvements in insulin sensitivity.

There is also strong evidence that this diet technique also helps to prevent some cancers, diabetes, and heart disease.
